Have you ever thought of building an ice boat from scratch, including the design? Well here it is, three years in the making and finally on the work bench. What started out to be a light weight one seat Nite, evolved into a new design, ultra light, C-Skeeter. Many thanks go out to Bob Gray for his countless hours of designing and meticulous planning, and to Skip Stauber and Jack Jacobs for there knowledge and input.
Hopefully everything will go as planned and the as yet un-named GX-1 will have its maiden voyage at the North Westerns in early December, or locally if we have early ice in the Traverse City (MI) area.

Folks,
The time is quickly approaching and we will soon need to retire our ice yachts to their summer location.
The real question is when will the ice actually go out on Lake Minnetonka? Here is a link that has all the dates listed and rules for official iceout
http://www.freshwater.org/iceout.html
My vote is April 22nd @ 9:30 am.
What is your guess???
Maybe our great Webmaster could put up a function where users could log their guesstimate?
Prizes,,, none but bragging rights till the ice reforms and we all meet again on the ice.
Thanks,
Will
2 DN'ers sailed buffalo on Saturday in continually building breeze, the lake gave up 6 hours of spectacular sailing.
4 DN's sailed Sunday, 12 races sailed in continually building breeze. Until the wind was too much, and ice a bit too soft, it got pretty out of control by about 2:00. Hee Yaa!
This was truely the tightest racing of the season, with most races seeing the top three boats finish within 5-6 seconds. Picking the laylines right and keeping the boat moving in the moderately sticky conditions were the keys to winning.
Western Regional Champion 4811 Markham Chatterton won the first 2 on inserts, It was pretty amazing to watched them go away, in favor of angles in race three, as he backed out of the race on the first beat.
I NEED A SET OF SARNS RUNNERS
Will consider any Sarns runners. Can pick up in MN. or WI.

did anyone sail saturday? ice conditions in Ashby area? let out a shout if there's a last hurrah anywhere! thanks. dn 904
Minnesota Ice Sailing Assn will sail this weekend, starting 0900 saturday... Sturges Park, Buffalo, MN
- We're planning on grilling brats and maybe playing some bocce or croquet in the afternoon (assuming we can't be sailing when it gets too soft) US 602 claims he's bringing the brats & the beer.
- 6-8 DN's have indicated they'd be there... maybe more.
This will likely be the last hurrah for those of you that don't want to see what it looks like around Christina this time of year... it's still cold up north.
First Start 9:00 show up early the sun comes up at 6.00
It's going to be great!

We have had some good sailing the last two days. This morning and early afternoon the winds were 9-13 mph , but the snow was crispy so I only sailed for about 1/2 hr. A couple of the local club boats had started to set-up, by then the wind was a little less. With the crispy snow sailing was tough. We went to lunch waiting for the temps to rise. When we returned the snow was MUCH softer, but so were the winds. None of the 10 minute wind averages from 1pm to 5pm went over 7 mph. The wind meter ranged from 2-8 mph...So even though the snow was fine to sail the wind wasn't cooperating. I got a couple short rides in the skeeter after lunch, but the winds were mainly ranging from 3-5 mph. You couldn't hardly tell which direction the wind was coming from some of the time it was so light. The wind was considerably higher right against shore, but that doesn't do us any good it just tricks us into going out.
I'm trying to decide if/where there might be some sailing this weekend. Does Buffalo Lake look likely?
Cheers,
Geoff S.
The idea was hatched last night to hold a Twin Cities Iceboat Swap Meet sometime this coming fall, probably in October. Keep an eye on this site for an announcement.
I've got a set of angle/slush runners(3) for sale, available on the ice on Saturday (Buffalo or where-ever we're sailing) and it looks like it's going to be angles for the rest of the season.
