We sailed Minnetonka today. Whole lake was great with no obstructions. Great wind. Ice was a little better on the Main Lake than the bays. Big 3 mile long reaches from Big Island to Wayzata Bay.
Sailors are checking Minnetonka and Calhoun today to assess local conditions...

For cruisers that want to stay close to home this weekend, the lower croix

St croix beach to launch.

As of this hour it looks like Lake Pepin recieved just a trace of snow in today's storm, we should have eyes on the ice tomorrow morning early to confirm conditions. Local sailors are already planning what now promises to be an excellent weekend of sailing on Pepin.
Based on what's happened and the current radar imagery, we're hopeful the lake remains in excellent sailing condition.
Based on the forecast gusting over 35mph tomorrow, there are no plans to sail the lake on Wednesday Mar 11.

Its gonna happen this weekend. The question is where. WIsconsin sites known:
--Lake Geneva is good, and the ISAs are called on there. We could go to the east end at Linn road. The shore will be suspect, and trailers on, cars off is likely to be the state Saturday.
--Geoff reports Mendota is good but a bit rough. Cars off, trailers on, $5 per day lake access fees, bring cash.
--Based on a drive-by, Kegonza looks great. Need better report!
Grant Frautschi of Madison won the 2009 Nationals on Lake Geneva. Saturday morning, three races were sailed in light to medium wind on a moderately choppy but snow-free ice. A dying afternoon breeze halted racing after an attempt at race four.
Sunday's racing was kick-butt fantastic. Five races back-to-back in 14 mph wind with occasional blasts and lulls. The leaders were never "safe" as it was always possible to move up through the fleet with a few good laps. Full results aren't posted yet, but they will.
I just got a report from JD;
He's driving around on the ice, hasn't seen any drain holes, really nice - spring ice... The regular friday morning registration/big boat setup/noon racing..
I guess tommy is in route today for the noon racing.
Sounds pretty good... expectations are high.

Providing it doesn't snow muuch tonight. WE aren't suppose to get much snow and there will be wind both days. What is the plan for the weekend sailing?
It would be great if we could all be on the same part of the lake. Maybe have some fun scrub racing.
Mike Miller is out sailing today and will give us the latest ice report.
The wind is up to 10MPH and snow is coming later today, so now is the time to make some rips on the big sheet of Main lake ice. Forecast calls for SE at 10-15 rest of day.
See you out there, leaving now.
Hope we get missed by the snow event as Saturday wind sounds even stronger!
Mike
