Kennedy and I joined a couple of kiters and a skate sail on Silver Lake Thursday! A solid 4” of ice in 45F sunshine with South winds of 10-13. Great conditions to rip a short course until the necks couldn’t take it anymore. Got the gps up to 45 mph! One small working seam developed toward the west shore, with a small open spot near a point of land.
There is a suitable DNR launch on the SW corner of lake. Follow Hwy 7 west about one mile, make a sharp left. Not marked gravel road. You feel like it’s a private farm road but head straight east to the trees.
DN includes:
Hull, max width/length.
Plank, ash/white pine. Best for 180lbs skipper.
Plate runners w/ carry bag.
Carbon mast.
Aluminum boom w/ internal sheet
F01 sail
Tapered main sheet
Stays with Staymasters
Ready to go. $1,800.

Normally, we don't celebrate weather forecasts that include snow. But last night's 1 inch of snow is a true indicator that cold weather is on its way.

NEIYC Commodore James "T" Thieler (DN 5224), isn't shy about reminding us of our financial responsibilities. Here is a post I plagiarized from the NEIYA web site:
Hey Gang- That time of year! If you are a DN sailor (or would like to be) it’s time to crowbar the wallet open and pay the class dues. At a whopping $26 per year it’s a pretty good value! You can also get a sustaining membership for an extra $10 or even make a donation to help support the class.

The fall equinox arrived yesterday and, almost as if on cue, the temperature last night in towns near Hibbing Minnesota dipped to below 32 degrees. It won't be long now!

The Skeeter Ice Boat Club's 33rd Annual Swap Meet is scheduled for Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Lucke’s Cantina, 220 N. Elkhorn Rd. (WI Hwy 67), Williams Bay, WI.
This the mother of all swap meets. More equipment changes hands here than at all other swap meets combined. All classes of boats are represented. It is well worth the drive.

Class Secretary Deb Whitehorse has published a special edition of Runner Tracks in response to the IDNIYRA Board's request that the fleet review and comment on the first public publication of the "Epic Agreement & Regatta Management Agreement." The proposed agreements will form the basis for a more unified world wide iceboat class. See the document at https://www.idniyra.org/2018/07/23/july-runner-tracks-newsletter-special...
