The Bay is pretty much locked in, 15 miles wide by 20 miles long of pretty much snow free 8-10" (and growing) black ice. This could be the week to come do some big lake sailing.
400 squre miles of ice to choose from. How cool would it be to have the Worlds here, great ice, unparallel scenery, great hospitality, "Thunder Bay,Superior by Nature".
I was thinking about sailing Minnetonka this afternoon (Friday). Any other interest?? I'm set up at Shorewood yacht club, and will probably stay in that bay due to high winds and bad shell ice on the rest of the lake.
main lake minnetonka looks little rough. maybe ok for big boats and sailable. but lake city not too far and better ice. set up at city ramp south of downtown. mike miller, dr, adam, meyer, plus??

A quick walk on West Arm of Lake Minnetonka this morning confirms that all the rain and warm temps yesterday, followed by the big chill down to 15F last night has made the ice look decent with snow ice and lumps and bumps. I wonder how the main lake has faired. The MYC camera does not show enough detail, but a ride today before the new snow and ice event arrives looks possible. Anyone interested?
Mike
Any one in the Minneapolis area have room for a paying passenger to Worlds.Depending on distance I do not feel like making the drive on my own (wife not interested).I could get my gear down to Minneapolis and hook up with you.

Any sailable Ice?
All the little bays are frozen over here in Thunder Bay.Just sailed today on 8" of smooth black ice with 1/2" snow cover at Bearch Beach,on Lake Superior (20 min out of town) the next Bay over Crystal Beach has about 3" of Smooth Black ice with zero snow.Forcast looking good into the middle of next week, mild and no snow.Come on up and treat yourself to some big Lake sailing.

That was a great regatta. Some really good racing. With light, shifty wind and fast ice with some hazards it was really fun iceboat racing. The temps were down around, I'm not sure but 11 to 14 F.
Saturday we got in three races in the Ice Opti, Silver and Gold Fleets before the PRO called it a day. It was cold and there was some decent wind all day long. Some of the top racers were using their speed sails.
new to Minnesoat and the sport, wondering where to go and check it out. Anyboday sailing on White Bear this weekend sat- 12/18

I walked lower Minnetonka today from Shorewood Yacht Club East to Big Island. The massive snow storm last weekend sunk the ice and is now refrozen. Conditions good, 5 out of 10. Measured 4"-8", some hard snow ice, some black ice. Good from Shorewood yacht club to Harry's. Did not check the main part of the lower lake. There is less than 1" of powder on top from this morning's snow. Some bumps from ice that was breaking up in the wind while forming. I plan on setting up the Skeeter at Shorewood yacht club tomorrow morning.
