We have just wrapped 3 days of iceboat filming on Minnetonka. A very special thank you to Angie Ostbye, John Dennis, Harry Allen (& the rest of the Allen family), Mark Kiefer and Mike Maloney. They filmed DN's blasting around the windward mark, got the correspondent out in a variety of boats including the A Stern steer, and also recorded a handful of interviews. I will post when I know what day this will be airing.
Today went well and we got some great material. If it is nice tomorrow it would be good to get some more film in. Come on out! Should be much warmer than today.
If you're near a TV Saturday morning, check out a story WCCO is airing sometime between 8:00-9:00 AM
Cameraman & reporter both go for rides on White Bear Lake.
Looks like we racing again this weekend on Bald Eagle Lake. Since the "Nationals" got cancelled, the Commadore is calling it the Nite "Internationals". The ice is in top shape. Always a great time, and newbies are always welcome. The variety of the fleet makes for some interesting racing. Come on out!!
Due to potential snow on Sunday the producer(film guy) will be coming in on Friday night and we will start the filming on Saturday. The correspondent, Ginger Zee, will be out on Monday.
Let's aim to start the first of the races at around noon on Saturday.
I will be organizing with the producer on Saturday morning. For the time being he and I will be meeting at Harry's.
Things should just happen naturally.
If Sunday looks nice we will also be filming.
UPDATE:
I have just gotten off the phone with the producers at ABC News GMA Weekend Edition. They are looking at coming to Minnetonka on Sunday(22nd) and Monday(23rd). Sunday would be filming the racing and iceboats sailing around as well as few sound bites. Monday would be sailing with the correspondent which I will arrange on the side. If you are around and can sail on Monday, please feel free to come out.
Saturday we should get out on the ice as well. Let's do some races. I am volunteering my time to do whatever is necessary to ensure that the shoot tells are really great story.
*PRICE DROP* 1550$ for the complete boat minus runners, or 450$ for the hull, plank, mast, sail, minus the DN hardware.
My son is too old for this boat now, and he has been hogging all my DN time, The Opti I built for him in 2008 is for sale. Nice boat that sails beautifully, Natural Cedar sided finish with a painted deck and plank.
Looks like a fast day to be riding in the jump seat..
oh yeah, and the mast comes down at 3:35.. they had a spare shackle..
