First-Ice predictions for MN?

December 3rd is coming up fast! Any predictions on how far northwest we'll have to drive for the DN Western Challenge regatta?

Cheers,

NITE Bend characteristics

Are there optimum bend characteristics for the NITE mast and plank that are avaiable? Ex-this distance between two sawhorses and this much weight equals this much sag...??? How about the springboard?

Beginner seeks input, RE: Hobie cat sail/mast combo...

As a beginner here, was wondering if anyone has any
experience and/or knowledge of using a Hobie 14
mast/sail combo on an iceboat?? Use would be
casual sailing only, NOT racing, although the
performance of this combo on my Hobie 14 may not
leave much choice. The boat, as I have drawn it up,
would be roughly 15' long by 10 feet wide. The
Hobie 14 mast is 22' high, the sail roughly 85-90
SQF. I intend to sail it only in lighter winds -
I have a smaller windsurfer mast/sail for more wind.
Intend to make the boat easily convertible from one
mode to the other. Any input??

How about a 'MN connections' catagory just for MN folks?

Hello,

I just got into this sport last winter, albeit
with a VERY crude "ice boat" (note the quotes) I
bought for $100, minus mast and sail. Bought a
large windsurfer with 2 sails for $120, and gave
the board away to friends to float their lift out
of the lake in the fall and back into lake in spring.
It had 20" chain saw bars for the side runners,
which actually worked quite well, except were too
limber. So, last summer I bought a 14' Hobie Cat,
whose mast and sail I intend to adapt to a all-new
redesigned iceboat.

I'm located in NC Minnesota by Hackensack, and have
yet to encounter anyone else interested in this

Building Aluminum Boom

I need a new boom for my DN, because my wood boom is done. Any thoughts about building an Aluminum boom?

Thanks,
Will of NE Mpls

DN boom

I am making an aluminum boom for my DN. Other booms I've seen have alot of ability to adjust the blocks. Why is this? It seems that because the blocks on the hull are not adjustable you would set the blocks on the boom to them and be done. What am I missing?

Sell dn 60 club boat

For Sale to a good home...dn 60 club boat in great shape. has not been on the ice in 15 years. all there with sharpened steel runners, mylar sail, battens and "power" early geougeon tiller. A must see that was built in the late 60s. lots of fun. In Utica Michigan (my children are not interested) Jon Crane 248 650 8000

Extending the cockpit

I've always wanted to extend the cockpit on my DN and this year I was able to do it.

JD opened up his garage to the iceboaters. The shop is great. It's been recently insulated (thanks gang..) and JD put in a kickass heater..

The HOT DOG
Hot Dog

JD and his skeeterThis took about 5 lazy trips out to the shop, (shop night is monday & tuesday). JD was working on his new skeeter, but took time out to help me with me project.

So first step is too check the rule book, and mark the location of the new bulk head.
checking the rule book

I didn't go to the max cockpit length, because I'm not that tall, and there is DN stearing gear in the way.

dn sail wanted

I am looking for a good condition DN sail. I'm not a racer so I just need a good all around medium air sail.
