Repairing 5156 - Day 8

Well, it's almost done!

I made lots of chips and sawdust between using the router to trim the deck plywood and the sander to level out the joints where the new deck fairs into the old. When I removed the old deck from the grab-rail I feathered the remaining deck plywood at the ends. However, both ends turned out to have a complex slope that I couldn't easily match with the new deck, so I ended up with the new deck standing proud of the old at the end of the transition. A few minutes with the dual-action sander leveled it all out (and left kind of an interesting contour effect). With all the dust removed I coated all the exposed surfaces with a thin layer of epoxy and left the hull to cure overnight. Tomorrow I'll attache the hardware and everything should be "good to go" - just in time for the Northwest Regatta!

Final coat of epoxy!
